three names. one job.

SEO, AEO, and GEO are not three unrelated disciplines. SEO is whether a page can be found and understood. AEO and GEO are whether an answer engine, once it looks, can use that page. Buying three retainers for three acronyms is how the work gets duplicated.

SEO

Crawl, index, canonical, title, internal links, a page that matches the query. Google’s own note on generative features still starts here: be crawlable, be useful, be clear. There is no special AI tag that replaces that.

AEO

Answer engine optimization. You start from the question a buyer types into ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or an AI Overview. You record whether you are named, whether a URL is attached, and who is attached instead.

GEO

Generative engine optimization. The same measurement, described from the generated answer backward. If a vendor sells GEO as a markup language, ask them to show the platform document that requires it. Qureoon has not found one.

  1. You need SEO firstIf Googlebot or Bingbot cannot fetch the page, an AI product that relies on the open web is unlikely to cite it either. Bing’s webmaster guidelines still apply to Copilot’s web results.
  2. You need AEO when the buyer asks a system, not a list of linksThe unit of work becomes the question, not the keyword. The unit of progress becomes a mention or a citation, not a position on a blue-link page.
  3. You do not need a second stack of pagesOne clear page per real question is enough. A hundred near-copies of “best AEO agency in [city]” teach a model that you stuff pages. Qureoon does not publish those.

If the site cannot be fetched, start with the technical list on the citation guide. If it can be fetched and the brand is still absent from the answers that matter, that is the AEO engagement.
